How an electric heat tracing system works
Different applications also have different requirements. There are various types of heating cables for Ex and non-Ex areas. Self-regulating heating cables (also called self-limiting heating cables) offer the advantage to be operated with or without additional regulation. The temperature regulates itself by molecular expansion. Two parallel bus wires are embedded in a heating matrix doped with carbon particles. The resistance increases and output drops. MI cables (mineral insulated), parallel or series resistance heating cables are always operated with the appropriate measurement and control technology.

Prevent waste of APIs with a GMP-adapted micro dosing system. It succeeded with united forces. An important player in the pharmaceutical industry had long been familiar with the application of the highly accurate and pulsation-free micropumps of HNP Mikrosysteme on a laboratory scale. In the course of time, people came up with more and more far-reaching questions and demands. For the very accurate dosing of 2 products, 2 micro dosing systems in accordance with GMP were eventually requested. But HNPM's systems are not standardized on GMP. GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) To comply with GMP, quite a few requirements are set. Both to the materials used and the roughness of the surface and to the cleanability of the dosing system. Because contamination is undesirable and not even allowed. The ultimate goal of GMP is to always guarantee the same high quality product, without risk of cross-contamination by residual product in one of the components of the process equipment. GMP provides for several procedures and guidelines. The purpose of the procedures is to make each component traceable. All batches must be validated. This means that these are recorded with certificates. For laboratories, this means that DIN is used as a guideline. This is a European directive. This also immediately complies with CE. Only a carefully recorded and controlled production process ensures the quality of a medicine. HNPM's standard micro dosing systems do not comply with GMP. To achieve this, adjustments had to be made. OUR SOLUTION To prevent remaining material in the dosing system and not using an unnecessary amount of API, the standard system has been adapted on several fronts. A special flow meter was also selected that complies with GMP. * Surface roughness The standard material roughness of HNPM micropumps is Ra 0.8 μm. The customer asked for a surface roughness of only Ra 0.5 μm. This roughness is not possible everywhere. In the present case, a surface roughness of Ra≤0.8 was feasible for both filter and pump. A Ra 0.8 μm is actually quite exceptional and was more than sufficient for a GMP application. A roughness of 0.8 μm was therefore agreed. The best (smoothest) we could deliver at that time. * New type of filter developed with small internal volume (7ml) HNPM developed a new type of filter, the FM10, with a smaller internal volume compared to other standard filters of HNPM (FM12 = 36ml, FM10 = 7ml). The Ra of the filter, like the one for the pump, was 0.8 μm. The advantage of this new filter is that it can be easily cleaned. Both CIP and SIP! * Adjustment NPT connections (fittings) The NPT fittings have been adapted to fittings without corners and dead volume so that they can be easily cleaned and sterilized. * PEEK tubing with internal diameter of only 1.8mm! A type of tubing was used with a smaller internal diameter. The original tubing: Internal diameter 4mm, external diameter 6mm The new tubing: Internal diameter 1.8mm, external diameter 2mm. The advantage of this is that less API has to be used (less API waste!). In addition, this gives an improved volume flow and ensures faster and more efficient rinsing. * Documentation Inspection documentation was made available for the wetted parts: 1. Pump/ filter/ flow meter 2. Tubing/ connections/ adapters/ seals 3. Hoses For the metal products, 3.1 certificates and the Declaration of compliance 2.1 (DIN EN 10204:2005) have been delivered. Summarized 1. The system has a perfect surface roughness of Ra 0.8 μm 2. Use of FDA approved materials 3. All necessary certificates are available 4. CIP and SIP cleanable 5. Accurate and pulsation-free flow, independent of differential pressure and volume flow! With the adjustments and documentation made, the dosing system now perfectly complies with GMP! An economical and safe solution, also for your process! Fully validated according to GMP. DEMANDING PROCESSES, SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS

With the new types 7017 and 7027, Schubert & Salzer's range now includes two globe valves for regulating and shutting off media ranging from neutral to highly aggressive. In a stainless-steel version with nominal sizes from DN 15 to 50, the two valve types are suitable for a wide temperature range from -30 °C to +200 °C (optionally -100 °C to +220 °C) and for nominal pressures up to PN 40. The straight seat design enables a highly efficient and very simple isolation of the valve itself as well as the welded-on pipeline.

Gpi supplies innovative chocolate process equipment to Menken Orlando
“Gpi De Gouwe is a reliable partner, supplies quality and helps to shape the desired process from start to finish” The wish of The Hague-based Menken Orlando – namely to produce chocolate-coated nuts and dried fruit at a single location – was recently granted. Their logistical and production processes were further harmonised after a plot of land was purchased on an industrial site near the outskirts of Boskoop. A challenging project, where speed was of the essence, but with a fantastic final result! The biggest challenge at Menken Orlando, which produces chocolate-coated snacks amongst other things, was the comprehensive nature of the project. It involved constructing new premises, purchasing new chocolate process equipment, and recruiting new employees. And because there had to be harmony between the various facets, the whole process had to be carefully devised in advance. “When we came up with a plan to build new premises, we quickly realised that we wanted to integrate the chocolate factory into the new building” says Ad-Willem Slings, who responsible for improvement and investment projects at Menken Orlando. “My colleague Laurens Bouwmeester, who is production manager for processing and engineering, has a great deal of experience when it comes to chocolate, and his expertise allowed us to take the production of chocolate-coated products to the next level at our new location.” They were jointly responsible for realising the whole project. Laurens took care of the technology side of things, while Ad-Willem was the point of contact for all construction-related matters. After a tender process involving several parties, they immediately had a good feeling about Gpi De Gouwe, adds Ad-Willem. “Gpi invited us to meet the people at Gpi De Gouwe, showed us around the production area, and advised us to deploy Starcker for all pipework. All this – and the fact that Gpi can respond quickly because it is located near our site in Hazerswoude-Dorp – made the offered total solution particularly appealing and resulted in us opting for Gpi De Gouwe” states Ad-Willem. “Gpi De Gouwe helped us with their ideas and put us in touch with the companies that we needed; this was greatly appreciated and gave us real peace of mind” say both men. Gpi supplied various chocolate tanks measuring 15 and 25m3 as well as several buffers kids – storage tanks on a frame – measuring 200 litres. The double-walled insulated tanks feature agitators that were produced in-house by Gpi, and have motors that are powered from above. According to Menken Orlando, the decision to use riveted stainless steel panels was made because stainless steel is stronger than e.g. aluminium and offers a more high-grade finish. Tailor-made stainless steel process equipment for chocolate Menken Orlando already possessed stainless steel chocolate processing equipment and thus already knew about the positives and negatives of its existing chocolate machines. “We worked with Gpi to see what could be upgraded and improved” explains Laurens. “And although we had to make a few concessions, these concessions are easily outweighed by the possibilities that the equipment now offers us. Thanks to our collaboration with Gpi De Gouwe and the secondary party they introduced, our equipment has now undergone innovative and user-friendly improvements, and the ‘problems’ that we faced with our old equipment are now a thing of the past.” “The new chocolate process equipment not only has a hygienic design (including wires being concealed within the frame) and is reliable, but user convenience has also been improved considerably compared to the old equipment” according to Laurens, who is more than satisfied. Both men confirm that the collaboration with Gpi was very pleasant. “Gpi is a reliable partner, supplies quality and helps to shape the desired process from start to finish. We were able to communicate effectively and smoothly, which also helped to establish a good relationship. AVK Needle valves enable engineers to finely control and regulate water flow and pressure. The innovative AVK design for flow optimization ensures a reduced pressure loss. The precision is achieved through the fine movement of the shaft, which enables the gearbox to move the piston tube in sliding motion towards opening or closing position, depending on the requirements from the control system. The AVK needle valves are available in sizes DN80 to DN2000 in PN10, 16, 25, 40, 64 and 100. High quality and long lifetime Our needle valves have a long lifetime due to all internal and moving parts in stainless steel and the body is completely protected by fusion bonded epoxy coating. Also, the sealings make up a long-life system and high-performance seal, located in no-flow zone, is easily replaceable without disassembling the valve from the pipeline. The needle valves are equipped with a special and innovative gasket for a perfect and bidirectional seat. All gaskets are located safely in the no-flow zone. In addition, the compact piston has 4-6 replaceable bronze guides to ensure very low vibration. Strict quality control is performed on all AVK needle valves using static and dynamic test benches. Quality parameters are carefully checked by our highly qualified personnel. Dedicated software for accurate size calculation Each valve is set according to relevant selection criteria for its specific application. Therefore it is necessary to provide the necessary information concerning hydraulic data (flow and pressure), installation design and requested operation when placing an order or quotation. This ensures that the needle valve has an optimum performance for the requested installation. Using our special sizing calculation software, a fluid and cavitation report can be provided under the requested hydraulic conditions. The report guarantees a cavitation free valve. Configurations AVK has made a selection of optional extras for actuation and cavitation prevention. The current operating data is entered per valve, after which the valve operates without cavitation, even at major pressure differences.
