On Wednesday, October 1, at 15:00, Rotterdam Processing Week presents a remarkable highlight in the ChemTech Theater: an exclusive masterclass by Dr. Payam Poorsolhjouy, Assistant Professor of Applied Mechanics at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e).

This session is made possible by the Royal Netherlands Society of Engineers (KIVI) and its Process Technology Division (NPT).

Theme: From pharmaceutical tablets to 3D concrete printing

Under the title “Material Modelling and Design Applied to Pharmaceutical Tablets and 3D Concrete Printing”, Poorsolhjouy will demonstrate how materials science and process technology reinforce one another. His research explores how interactions between the smallest material constituents can drive the design of new multifunctional materials and structures.

His insights have direct applications across diverse sectors: from powder compaction in the pharmaceutical industry to innovative construction methods such as 3D concrete printing.

About the speaker

Dr. Poorsolhjouy earned his PhD with distinction at the University of Kansas (USA) in 2016 and continued as a postdoctoral researcher at Purdue University. Since 2020, he has been affiliated with TU Eindhoven. His expertise lies in material modelling and design, with a focus on granular and particulate behaviour.

Beyond pharmaceutical tablets and concrete, his work also extends to cohesive materials (such as rocks and concrete), non-cohesive materials (such as soils), and complex fiber-reinforced composites.

KIVI and NPT: Building bridges with industry

The masterclass is co-organized by KIVI and the Process Technology Division (NPT). With over 1,200 members from both industry and academia, this division brings together chemical engineers and chemists, serving as a knowledge and networking platform for the Dutch process industry.

Through this initiative, KIVI and NPT highlight their commitment to advancing knowledge and showcasing innovative engineering.

Rotterdam Processing Week 2025: three trade shows, one ticket

Rotterdam Processing Week (October 1–2, 2025, Rotterdam Ahoy) is the leading two-day trade and networking event for the entire process industry. Featuring three trade shows – Solids (bulk & process technology), Pumps & Valves (liquids & gases), and M+R (measurement & control technology) – plus the brand-new knowledge platform Energy in Processing powered by ISPT, the event offers more than 220 exhibitors and 30 knowledge sessions, welcoming an expected 3,000 professionals.
